The response of muscles as a result of the stimulation of peripheral nerves aid the anesthesiologists to evaluate the depth of neuromuscular blockade of a patient during general anesthesia. One specific method consists in processing the acceleration of the thumb when the median nerve is electrically stimulated with standard stimuli patterns. In this paper, a system to acquire and to process samples from a two-axis accelerometer, intended to study the response of the thumb when TOF stimulus is applied, is presented and discussed. Preliminary results show the previously reported bell-shaped acceleration distribution, as well as adequate mechanical response of the thumb. © 2013 Springer.
