Abstract

The understanding of deixis in narrative fictions is related to deictic projection or shift. As a conceptually cognitive activity, it is closely associated with embodied cognition and social cognition. More specifically, embodied cognition concerns simulation and imagination, while social cognition engages characters’ awareness of each other in the story and readers’ cognition of the story’s characters.
