Abstract

The impact of legislative changes relating to air pollution on metalfinishers is considered. The latest Process Guidance Notes for industries using solvents provide guidance on local air pollution and local air pollution prevention and control for processes where over 5 tonnes of solvent is used in the coating process per year. The Guidance Notes incorporate requirements from the Solvent Emissions Directive and cover all metalfinishing processes with volatile organic carbon emissions. The long-term operating costs of oxidizers for destroying VOCs and the value of optimizing oxidizer performance are considered.
