Abstract

Grid adaptation with refinement criteria based on time-averaged quantities is coupled with a hybrid LES turbulence model to simulate a turbulent flow behind a backward-facing step. Two averaging strategies are used: averaging over the instantaneous flow field and averaging over the refinement criterion. Compared to AGR based on instantaneous solutions, the computational cost is reduced and the accuracy of the solutions improves.
