Wound Closure and Surgical Healing

Abstract

Surgical technique and wound healing are some of the most important factors in durability of neuromodulation. Many implanters have not trained in a surgical residency. Limited number of surgical procedures in most pain fellowship programs as well as limited number of weekend cadaver courses that the fellows can attend is usually not sufficient to prepare them as independent implanters. Moreover, more standardized guidelines are necessary in the field to help standardize the practice. This chapter will summarize our proposed guidelines and relate the protocols to optimize surgical outcomes.
