Abstract

The mechanics of erosion and washout rates on the breaching of erodible spillway dams by overtopping the embankments were studied analytically and by means of experiments. Homogeneous granular banks as well as clay core dams were investigated. Equations were obtained which make possible the computation of washout rates for design purposes.
