Abstract

Transitioning from high school to college life may be more difficult for some students than others, with many first year college students withdrawing before completing their degree (Parker, Summerfeldt, Hogan, & Majeski, 2003). Social integration or a sense of belonging and the related friendships that college students experience in their first year of college may have a major impact on their adjustment and become an important factor in finishing their first year (Kuh, Kinzie, Buckley, Bridges, & Hayek, 2006; Pittman & Richmond, 2008).
