Abstract

The study integrates social factors ((human-message interactivity and human-human interactivity) and motivation factors (perceived useful and perceived enjoyment) to explore the usage of health websites. A survey of 467 users of health websites was conducted to validate the proposed model. The findings show that social factors have all significantly positive effect on motivation factors. This study also confirms that motivation factors are important mediators between social factors and web usage. This study emphasizes the importance of social and motivation factors in the progress towards success health websites. The findings may be used as theoretical base for future research and can also offer empirical foresight to executives and managers of hospitals when they initially introduce and upgrade the health websites into their organizations. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.
