Abstract

The morphology and structures of hydroxyapatite (HA) nanomaterials greatly influence their physicochemical properties and bio-applications. In this study, HA nanostructures with tailored length regulated by different fatty acids were prepared via a solvothermal route. By using ricinoleic acid, linoleic acid and oleic acid as the template, the growth of HA crystals was regulated and the morphology of HA nanomaterials was transformed from long nanowires to short nanowires and then nanorods. The underlying mechanism for the formation of HA nanomaterials synthesized by different kinds of fatty acids under solvothermal condition was proposed. This study provides a simple and environmentally friendly way to obtain HA nanomaterials with tailored length for biomedical applications.
