In the last 20 years, communication and journalism have undergone more transformations than in its more than 400 years of history. Technologies have forced the mass media to reinvent themselves to respond to new challenges of the cultural industries. For this reason, the journalist's professional and work competencies that require the media in their digital convergence are identified. An investigation was conducted through a qualitative methodology, through surveys and in-depth interviews with agents of six media outlets in Colombia of press, radio and television, of greater consultation in the country. The sample was complemented with students, graduates, teachers and directors of Communication and Journalism programs. The study shows that the new journalist needs specific, general, transversal, academic and professional skills to face the new challenges and scenarios of media convergence.
