Abstract

Synonyms Access on the same basis; Equality of opportunity ; Equitable outcomes; Equitable provisions Definition Equal access to education is achieved when all children have not just the opportunity to attend early childhood education programs, schools, and technical, vocational, and higher education, but they are also provided with a quality education program in these settings on the same basis as all other learners. Equal access extends to learners with a disability or a health condition; those who live in rural, remote, and isolated areas; traveler children; indigenous learners; those who experience poverty; children who are homeless or in out-of-home care; those that are displaced or live in locations experiencing conflict; learners who are pregnant or parenting; learners who are marginalized due to their race, ethnicity, religious affiliation, gender, or identity; those who are carers; and other learners who are vulnerable within their community.
