After a patient’s first seizure, the initial concern of the treating medical providers is to determine the etiology of the seizure. If the seizure was apparently unprovoked, further investigations may be warranted to estimate the risk of recurrence. This chapter discusses the evaluation of the first seizure in a pediatric patient. Also covered is further specialized testing for patients diagnosed with epilepsy, including advanced imaging techniques for presurgical evaluation.
