Facilitating ICT adoption for older workers: Lessons learned from enterprise system practitioners

Abstract

The current study seeks is to investigate the role of employees’ age in improving ICT implementation projects in organizations. The study draws from the opinions of 75 ES practitioners gathered during an exploratory research conducted in Poland. The discovered recommendations for improving ICT adoptions were analyzed following the data-driven, grounded theory-based approach, employing open and axial coding. Next, the distribution of respondent opinions among different age groups was analyzed. Then, the discovered recommendations were discussed from the perspective of strengths and weaknesses of older employees. The main findings imply that older employees mainly recommend improvement in preparatory and training-related activities, while the middle-aged employees emphasize the importance of implementation project run. The youngest workers, in turn, particularly highlighted the need for improvement in technology-related considerations.
