Abstract

This research focuses on the design and development of emergency vehicle lighting integrated in fire fighting trucks. The Project uses the Design Thinking methodology, and has been developed at University of Cádiz, in collaboration with Feniks Cleaning and Safeting, S.L. It has been part of a teaching innovation project developed during the first semester of the academic year 2018–2019, being the responsible, two students from “Industrial Design Engineering and Product Development Degree” (IDEPDD), who have had the opportunity to work on a real product design, under the University-Business co-tutorization. The students have combined practical ECTS of the subject “Creation of New Products” with two internships offered by the Company, which is dedicated to special vehicles customization. This company looks for a versatile product adaptable to the range of vehicles they work with, in order to differentiate itself from the competition. A challenge is not only for the formal and aesthetic characteristics, but also for the need to guarantee the viability and manufacturability of the product, with an estimated production of less than 200 vehicles per year.
