Abstract

Presents a new model for clarifying theoretic viewpoints, avoiding traditional dichotomies which have proved unsatisfactory. The model, which is also designed to help in understanding the role of theory in empirical research, owes much to the work of W.L.Wallace in the methodology of sociology. Four examples of the model in operation are given, as is analysis of the model. - J.Welford
