Abstract

In the first part of this chapter (contributed by the first 2 authors), the topics dealt with include the systematics, world distribution and biology of species of Latrodectus and the chemistry, pharmacology and mode of action of the venom on various zoological groups including insects and mammals. The second part of the chapter (contributed by the third author) is concerned with poisoning in man caused by Latrodectus, symptoms, pathology and treatment.
