Abstract

We analyse building block supply in the initialpopulation for genetic programming. Facetwise modelsfor the supply of a single schema as well as for thesupply of all schemas in a partition are developed. Anestimate for the population size, given the size (orsize distribution) of trees, that ensures the presenceof all raw building blocks with a given error isderived using these facetwise models. The facetwisemodels and the population sizing estimate are verifiedwith empirical results.
