Abstract

Biofuels save the planet. Biofuels destroy rainforests, add to greenhouse gases and starve the poor. Both claims are made. What should we do? Decisions call for careful quantification of the benefits and drawbacks and an appreciation of the uncertainties involved, says Nigel Mortimer. © 2011 The Royal Statistical Society.
