Abstract

Treatment planning and patient treatment are essential parts in the medical technology of ex- ternal radiotherapy. For patients undergoing such a radio-therapeutic treatment, the prescribed and absorbed dose to the target volume and the or- gans at risk need to be determined and notified. Furthermore, in radio-therapeutic treatments, registrants and licenses shall ensure, within the ranges achievable by good clinical practice and optimized functioning of equipment, that the pre- scribed absorbed dose with the respective beam quality is delivered to the planning target vol- ume as well as doses to other tissues and organs is minimized. Therefore in this chapter modern and standard equipment, treatment procedures, ba- sics of treatment planning and quality control in radiation therapy will be presented.
