Abstract

The emotional intelligence role inside and outside school demands "to educate"the emotions so that people become apt to deal with their frustrations, anguishes and fears. This article aims to evaluate the importance of the emotional intelligence in the education context, having these inquiries as starting point: Can Emotional Education contribute to the teaching-learning process, in favor of the balance between the students' rational cognitive and emotional aspects? In positive case, what theoretical-methodological ways can be traced and/or pointed so that the Emotional Education come true at schools? The methodological option was the research-action, accomplished in fifteen workshops, with participation of 14 professors, 1 coordinator and the researcher. The workshops results turned into a plan of action that aimed to disseminate the studies of the emotional education at schools. The research conclusions showed that emotional intelligence competences, as self-knowledge, self-management, social conscience and relationship administration, can contribute to the teaching-learning process quality, leading the human beings to balance their reason and emotions. © 2009 Fundação CESGRANRIO.
