Abstract

Samvidhan LIVE! Be a Jagrik is a call to the youth to ‘live the constitution’. Debuted in 2016, the toolkit is aimed at spreading constitutional literacy, in other words, Jagrik by Jagrik. The word Jagrik is a composite of two Hindi words—Jagruk and Nagrik—and signifies a proactive citizen who is awakened to his/her own potential. Entrenched in the experiential, non-classroom pedagogy of game-based learning the game ensures that information becomes knowledge, capacity becomes agency and discontent—social hope. Its outreach is multiplied as it is available in several Indian languages other than Hindi and English. The spirit of the game is enshrined in its theory of change of creating a 5th Space for the youth. Between 2018 and 2020 alone more than 11,000 Jagriks were nurtured across six states of India undertaking more than 54,000 action-based tasks. In terms of digital footprints, the game has over 13 lakh online impressions with more than 7300 young people on its Facebook page. It has had extensive coverage in both print and digital media and had a live coverage on Lok Sabha TV, the official channel of the Parliament of India. Be a Jagrik, is no longer just a game, but has become a self-perpetuating youth movement. With its clear vision that every adolescent can ‘Be a Jagrik’, Samvidhan LIVE! continues to spread its outreach and grows with the aspiration to engage leastwise 2 lakh Jagriks from 25+ Indian states.
