Global demand for food and fibre production is increasing pressure on natural resource condition. Awareness of the interdependence of food security and soil health is growing along with the need to balance production with sustainable resource use. The focus on increasing production has overshadowed consideration of long-term soil condition. Transformative thinking is required to successfully join high productivity with sustainable soil management to ensure intergenerational equity. A hybrid model of soil management is proposed.
