As area density increases in magnetic recording, spacing between head and disk is required to be below 10nm. Under such ultra-low spacing, it necessitates that ABS design should be good at not only static performances, e.g. flying height, pitch & roll, but also dynamic performances, e.g. HDI (head disk interface) robustness. In this paper, we developed a new dynamics testing to evaluate the HDI robustness using AE sensor and LDV. The HDI robustness will be discussed in terms of ABS design concepts.
