Abstract

Radiation and the radiation balance is a basic variable. Its nature and measurement are outlined. The balance can be altered naturally (eg. by volcanic dust) but the effect of man is also marked and exceedingly complex. Examples include local pollution, albedo change through the destruction of vegetation, and ozone loss from the stratosphere. -Keith Clayton
