Hearing method for user requirement extract in participatory design -designing for service involving local residents-

Abstract

In participatory design involving local residents, recently, interest in social issues has increased, and design approaches that focus on finding local issues and solving them or creating new value have emerged, such as social labs. In such approaches, it is important to organize needs extraction and requirements based on human-centered. However, there is no methodology that focuses on the hierarchical structure of human needs. Therefore, this paper focused on the application of a hierarchy of ergonomics and hedonomic needs. In the participatory design with residents living in Hachijo island, Tokyo, we conducted hearings and systematization from the perspective of Hedonomics. We report a case study in which the three types of hearings combined in a step-by-step was practiced in the participatory design with the local residents and a case study of systematizing them. Then we present its potential as a framework for grasping the living conditions surrounding the local residents and interacting with participants.
