Abstract

Facing a highly competitive market the construction industry sought as one of the business strategies to offer housing customization. This practice focuses on results that meet a demanding public which search of differentiated products. To the client is permitted to adapt his housing unit fitting it to his preferences. The flexibility is promoted when various layouts are offered to the same housing design with different possibilities to use, to expand or to change the spaces. To offer a unique layout is other way to propose flexibility when is permitted free modifications during the selling and construction phases. But this method of attending the clients results in difficulties to the construction enterprise in order to define an efficient process control. Other problems are the unclear communication with the clients and between the departments of the construction company. This case study was conducted in two stages, analyzing a building enterprise from Cuiabá, Mato Grosso. In the first step, documentary research, field observations, unstructured interview and diagnosis were executed in order to support the understanding of the business process customization which have been developed by the company including the difficulties and conflicts in the interfaces generated between the agents involved. In the second stage guidelines and a new flowchart of the customization process were developed and proposed to the company. It is expected that these results can diminish the problems for the services generated by the customization process.
