Abstract

The field of comparative, international, and development education (CIDE) has a long and distinguished history, and it now occupies a prominent place in the pantheon of knowledge in most universities worldwide. Numerous societies exist in as many countries, and a World Congress of Comparative Education Societies represents a sort of umbrella organization. Professional peer-refereed journals abound in the field, and a variety of methodologies, principally drawn from the social sciences, are utilized in the conduct of CIDE research (Jacob and Cheng 2005). Indeed, the field has matured over the years, and as a result some enduring policy issues have risen to the surface and dominate the discussion today. This volume surveys some of the more critical of these policy issues.
