The concept of resilience is currently used in very diverse scientific fields and contexts. It has originally emerged in psychology, especially in studies concerning the psychology of the individual. From there it has spread to numerous disciplines and was further developed in inter-disciplinary work, particularly in the environmental sciences such as social ecology but also, more recently, in the social sciences and humanities.
