Abstract

In the field of Orthopaedic Surgery, sonographic imaging has recently re-emerged as an effective medium by which to diagnose musculoskeletal pathology. It is advantageous over MRI in that it is low cost, widely available, and allows for a dynamic examination of the musculoskeletal system. It allows for huge potential time-savings in that it can be utilized in the office setting whereas a CT or MRI requires the patient to schedule the imaging procedure and a separate visit to review the results. This chapter provides a concise review of some of the more common indications for ultrasound in the field of orthopaedics.
