Abstract
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is an agency of the US federal government. Its purpose is to protect the environment and human health. It carries out this duty by writing and enforcing regulations that are based on laws passed by Congress. There are many aspects to the EPA. Therefore, this chapter provides a general description of the agency and discusses its regulations, especially for heavy metal contaminants in the water, air, and soil.
