Abstract

Steels for die applications should be relatively easy to work and shape, yet the tools, dies, or molds made from them should be hard and resist wear. In general, each grade of steel offers the user different degrees of hardness, toughness, and wear resistance. These steels fall into two groups: mold steels and tool steels.
