Abstract

The paper by Jaak Kliimask, Henri Lärv, Kalev Sepp and Raymond Ward raises an important and controversial question: Does conservation, particularly the establishment of protected natural areas, foster or hinder the economic development of remote rural areas? Further, is there a win-win-strategy for local inhabitants and the general public when conservation specifically impacts such areas?
