Abstract

In this paper, various consequences of the PISA mathematics results in Germany are analysed. After a short review of the German PISA mathematics performance since 2000 the paper focuses on three aspects: Fostering professional development of teachers, implementing educational standards, and providing empirical evidence by research programs. Altogether, PISA showed a strong impact on education in Germany and was an important stimulus for the discussion, reflection and improvement of the quality of mathematics teaching and learning in Germany as well as for research into mathematics teaching and learning.
