Less precise learning materials delivered include the way of writing, pronunciation and meaning. So far, Japanese language learning media at SMA N 1 Bukateja still uses conventional learning media such as books or modules. Currently, the use of these media is considered less effective because students often have difficulty understanding when the word is used, how it is written and how it is pronounced. To improve students' understanding in learning Japanese, it is proposed to make an application in the form of learning media with the concept of augmented reality. The research method used is Applied Research or applied research that can emphasize practical problems. The development method used is MDLC (Multimedia Design Life Cycle). The design method uses UML (Unified Modeling Language) and the Analysis Method uses a problem tree (Problem Tree Analysis). Japanese using Augmented Reality increases understanding compared to posters and books learning media. Test data on users concluded that with the application, 94.7% of respondents were able to understand all the learning covered by the application. Testing with the validation system on material experts also concluded that the application was feasible to use with a total value of 74.285%.
