Abstract

Hemiplegic migraine (HM) is a subtype of migraine with motor aura associated with unilateral weakness as a dominant symptom during the migraine attack. HM can be sporadic or familial with several specific genetic mutations that have been identified. Patients usually present with stroke-like symptoms of hemiparesis and headache typical of migraine. Issues related to diagnosis and management are discussed in this chapter with emphasis on excluding other causes on clinical examination and appropriate investigation.
