The great liberation struggles of the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries are all distinct, and yet clearly connected by the same need for dignity. Working classes, people of colour, women, racial, ethnic and religious groups, casts, tribes, the disabled and sexual minorities – all the visible dominated groups developed unique claims to dignity, while taking inspiration from one another.
