Abstract

The image fusion process combines two images with complementary information, to improve visual perception of feature extraction. This paper focuses on a survey of visible and infrared image fusion techniques. Because the thermal picture captures the radiating energy of the observed items, it can easily identify them from their surroundings. The visible picture, on the other hand, gives a greater visual context of the objects with high spatial resolution. The resultant fused image must incorporate all the details from the visible and infrared source images. Several applications, including astronomy, military, medical imaging, and remote sensing, use image fusion algorithms.
