Abstract

Procedures for investigating biomedical implant surfaces and biological cell / surface interactions in plan-view and cross-sectional geometries are described. Ultramicrotomy, FIBSEM and cryogenic-FIBSEM techniques, as developed for the controlled cross-sectioning of human osteoblasts on Ti substrates for TEM investigation, are compared. © 2010 IOP Publishing Ltd.
