Abstract

The nephropathy induced by contrast medium is an important problem nowadays because of the high frequency of studies performed like angiography or computed tomography. This situation is defined by a fixed (0,5 mg/dl) or proportionate (25%) rise in serum creatinine levels after exposure to the contrast medium. However, it may be a contributory rather than a sole cause of acute renal failure. The main risk factors are diabetes, low creatinine clearance and age over 75. The most important strategy to prevent the nephropathy is the administration of fluids. The professionals involved in this particular problem should performed guidelines in the institutions where they work so as to prevent the disease.
