Includes a survey of politics and ideology, a study of population changes and social structure, and a study of the agrarian and livestock sector and of the process of industrialization. Also covers British investment in the Urguayan economy at the beginning of the period and the subsequent nationalisation of these assets, the economic crisis from 1955-1970 which ended in a military coup and a study of the military regime after 1973. -G.Kitching
