Abstract

The objective of this research was to analyze the school effect of Brazilian public schools. In this study, a contextualized analysis of the results of the Brazilian public schools is presented, which allows to know in what conditions the schools reached the results obtained. Data Envelopment Analysis was used to verify how the available resources in schools could affect their outcomes. The contextualized analysis, using the Socioeconomic Level Indicator (SLI/INSE), evidenced the efficiency discrepancy, both between the Brazilian federal units and between the educational networks of the same federative unit. The contextualized analysis of the results of the schools also showed that the average efficiency of the schools is not only linked to the socioeconomic level of the students, therefore, to the context in which the school is inserted. However, it has been found that schools in socioeconomically vulnerable settings receive fewer inputs than schools in socioeconomically more favorable settings.
