Abstract

Kelley Johnson analyses the complexity of the concept of ‘culture’ and some of the ways in which its different meanings have impacted on the human rights of persons with disabilities both historically and contemporarily. She explores some of the diverse approaches taken in relation to the development of disability cultures and the importance of these in the achievement of human rights by person with disabilities. Johnson also explores the challenges and tensions of evolving disability cultures.
