Abstract

Smelter Grade Alumina (SGA) is used as the raw material in primary aluminum electrolysis. The current aluminum reduction technology has strict requirement to the particle size distribution of SGA during the whole production process. This paper investigated the particle size parameters of industrial SGA on the Chinese market. The tested parameters include the particle size distribution and the attrition index of 14 kinds of fresh SGA and 7 secondary SGA, respectively. The relationship between the particle size distribution and the attrition index is discussed, and the influence of dry scrubbing system on the alumina particle size is considered as well. At last, this paper tries to propose an evaluation criterion based on the combination of particle size distribution and attrition index.
