Abstract

Aluminum reduction cell is the important equipment in aluminum smelter. The operation stability is directly related to the technical indicators of current efficiency, DC electrical-consuming of one tone aluminum, the quality of primary aluminum, and et al. In the production process, aluminum cell is a multi-variable, nonlinear, large delay, and time-varying inertial system, which has the disadvantage of model uncertainties. It is difficult to establish accurate mathematical model. Its own complex physical and chemical changes, various external conditions, and interference determine the variables and parameters non-continuous measured during the operation. Especially in the production process, the energy balances in the tank and the material balance state changing and constraints. Tank shell temperature is an intuitive expression form of cell hot and cold conditions. Therefore, the influence of process parameters and operation parameters can be analyzed through monitoring the shell temperature. The aluminum cell operation condition can be learned according to the temperature changing state. © 2012 Springer-Verlag London Limited.
