Abstract

The aim of this work is to analyze the environmental policy of the Brazilian government and establish a connection between the conclusions of the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development (RIO+20) and the importance of sustainability-centered education. As an exploratory research, we analyze how the government acts through their programs; explain the actions; and highlight the link between the main programs of the Brazilian Ministry of the Environment (Ministerio Brasileiro do Meio Ambiente-MBMA) and the main commitments they made during that conference, discussing the concept of sustainable development and green economy. The research analyzes the programs directly involved with green economy and the MBMA programs, and their connection with the volunteer commitments made during the RIO+ 20, focusing on education and its importance in the promotion of sustainability.
