Ss lifted a sequence of six weights with instructions to judge their average heaviness. A model that took the judgment to be an average of the stimulus values, weighted for serial position, gave a satisfactory quantitative account of the data. The later weights in each sequence had greater influence on the judgment, a recency effect. © 1967, Psychonomic Press. All rights reserved.
