Abstract

The aerial parts of Crithmum maritimum were collected at the end of the vegetative phase of the plant on four Azorean islands, Portugal. The essential oils were isolated by hydrodistillation and distillation-extraction and analyzed by GC and GC/MS. The oil yields ranged from 0.1 to 0.3 %. The sea fennel oils were dominated by their monoterpene hydrocarbons (93 to 96 % of the total oils), g-terpinene (81-86 %) being the main component of all the samples studied.
