Abstract

In learning Kanji, teacher usually teaches the students how to write and read the Kanjis. Teacherwrites the Kanji and students follow it. This learning method makes the students not independentand depending to what the teacher teaches in the classroom. Due to that issue, researcher tries touse the flipped class method in learning Kanji in order to shape an independet and not dependingstudents. First, teacher asked the students to practice the Kanji writing, identify the Kunyomi andOnyomi, also doing a reseach of the Jukugo of each Kanjis in certainlesson chapter by themselves at home. The object of this research are 21 students of the 5thsemester. The problem formulations of this research are: (1)How is the students’ Kanji abilitybefore using the flipped class method with “Tanoshii Japanese” as the learning media? (2)How isthe students’ Kanji ability after using the flipped class method with “Tanoshii Japanese” as thelearning media? (3) Is the flipped class method with “Tanoshii Japanese” as the learning mediacould improve the students’ Kanji ability? (4) How is the students’ feedback about N3 Kanji lessonusing the flipped class method with “Tanoshii Japanese” as the learning media? The research wasa quasi experiment and did not use the class control. Data analysis technique of this research wasused SPSS software and google form for questionnaire and interview, the data analysis is alsotaken by the result of interview and questionnaire. The score to be analyzed is the students’pretest and posttest score. The results of this research are expected to be useful for all Kanjiteachers and learners both in Indonesia and in other countries who are learning the similiar
