As a consequence of the contemporary global scope of economic relations, a number of actors have sought to re-embed economic life through the invocation of Economic, Social and Cultural (ESC) Human Rights. José López chapter proposes an analysis of the emergence of the prospects of one such right, the Human Right to Food. This involves a critical reexamination of some of Karl Polanyi’s coreconcepts, particularly the notion of (dis)embeddedness, and the argument that individuals’ recognition as members of political communities is key to the analysis of marketization and human rights.
