Right and Extended Right Hemicolectomy (Open, Laparoscopic)

Abstract

This chapter describes the detailed steps for a right hemicolectomy and the manner in which the extent and approach may vary depending on the nature and location of the target pathology, possible underlying risk constellations (hereditary cancer, inflammatory bowel disease), and the chosen approach (open versus minimally invasive). Indications, preoperative preparation, pitfalls and danger points, postoperative management, and complications are discussed. Detailed operative strategy and technique are given.
